US allows NGOs to send money to quake-hit Iran
The
United States has said it will temporarily lift sanctions for US-based
NGOs that want to send financial aid to help Iran's earthquake relief
effort.
Until now US sanctions have allowed food and medicines to be sent to Iran for humanitarian reasons, but not money.Iran initially declined outside aid after two strong quakes hit its northwest, killing at least 300 people.
Tehran has been criticised for responding slowly to the disaster.
The US Department of Treasury order comes after several US-Iranian organisations pressed the White House to lift restrictions on sending money so that they could support charities on the ground.
The US has imposed heavy sanctions on Iran because of its nuclear programme, which Washington suspects is aimed at building a nuclear weapon.

Notably, the computer’s casing is made from wood; MicroPro buys offcuts of sustainably sourced timber, such as walnut, solid oak or beech, from European furniture makers, and transports it back to a factory in Galway, Ireland, to make the computers.
The machine’s standard components, such as memory cards and processors are largely halogen-free, and it contains no mercury, lead, PVC, plastics or flame retardants. Besides, the PC’s components can be easily upgraded, giving it a lifespan of up to 10 years, a significant increase on the three to five year lifespan of most modern PCs.
10 Conscious Security Tips for Every Nigerian
As Nigeria’s security situation increasingly becomes a dilemma, One
begins to ponder where to run to. Is it a crime to be born here?,
Recently adjudged as the 6th worst Nation to live in Africa, Nigeria
over the years due to crass decay in Leadership and increased
corruption has become a danger zone for its citizens and the
international community. Government and public office holder’s
detachment from their communities and responsibilities have come back
to hurt us. We have thus bitten the forbidden fruit.
With a population of over 155 million people,Nigeria currently lies in
a dire security mess as individuals can no longer sleep well or even
travel within to certain geographical zones of the country due to the
stronghold of some sects. Safeguarding yourself and your family is now
at your peril as Social vices, trespassing, uncertainty, debasement,
treachery and the dreaded Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad
better known by its Hausa name Boko Haram can easily describe the

How actress, Eucharia Anunobi snubbed her mother.
Eucharia ,then at the department of Mass Communication at IMT, Enugu, told her friends about how rich her parents were. She was said to have made most people believe that she was a daughter of a very rich man in Lagos. However, when her mother visited her in school, she obviously was not looking like what Eucharia had painted on campus about her ‘imaginary’ very rich mother.

Meet Nollywood’s Top 5 Actresses …Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Them
They are beautiful, talented, award winners, famous celebrities, well paid and they are unarguably Nollywood’s top 5 actresses: at least, to me. Between them, they have over 200 movies to their credit and they are not quitting your screens anytime soon.
Omotola who has acted in blockbuster movies such as “Games Women Play”, “Blood Sisters”, “All My Life”, “Last Wedding”, “Ties That Bind” and recently “Last Flight To Abuja” had her beautiful white wedding aboard a DASH 7 aircraft flying from Lagos to Benin in April, 2001. Nobody has been able to match that feat till date as far as celebrity weddings in Nigeria is concerned.
Following closely on the list is petite single mother of one and face of Range Rover SUVs in Nigeria, Genevieve Nnaji (MFR). A US ally, Ethiopian leader Meles Zenawi dies
Meles died in a Belgian hospital Monday just before midnight after contracting an infection, authorities said.
Hailemariam Desalegn, who was appointed deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs in 2010, became acting prime minister and will be sworn in as prime minister after an emergency meeting of parliament, said Bereket Simon, the communications minister. Parliament is controlled by Meles' ruling party and governing coalition, ensuring Hailemariam will be approved. No new elections will be scheduled, Bereket said.
The death is not likely to have an impact on the strong U.S. diplomatic and military relations with Ethiopia, given the hand-picked nature of the transition of power.
A European Union spokesman said that Meles died in Brussels. Officials had expected Meles to

Kuramo ocean surge: Six more bodies recovered
By VINCENT KALU, CHRISTOPHER OJI and GILBERT EKEZIE
Six more bodies of victims of last Saturday’s Atlantic Ocean surge at Kuramo Bar Beach, Victoria Island, were recovered yesterday by officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The swollen bodies with parts of their skins peeled, were swept to the bank of the ocean.
The police gave the names of the recovered bodies as, Joseph Oke, Olumide, Mary, Daniel Ajose, Olorunwa Babatunde and Alhaji Babatunde Benson (aka KC). Lagos State police spokesman, Ngozi Braide, said more dead bodies might be recovered before the end of the day. According to a LASEMA official, men of the agency had been on ground since the day of the incident to see if more bodies could be recovered.
The LASEMA official, who craved anonymity, said though there were no divers to get the remaining bodies, they relied on the ocean current to sweep out the remaining to the shore, noting that it was possible that some of the bodies would be carried to shores far away from the scene of the accident. “We recovered four yesterday.
Robber survives 20 bullets
From NGOZI UWUJARE, Ibadan
A robbery suspect has in Osun State stunned a combined team of police officers and members of a vigilance group when he survived 20 bullets. Adedeji Ojo, who is in his early 30s, was a member of a four-man robbery gang who operated on Ibadan/Akure Expressway and Osu/Ilesha Road in Osun State for months before their arrest recently. Ojo lived in Lagos before joining the daredevil gang, which terrorized residents.
The bandits’ mode of operation involved littering the road with iron and nails. Any unsuspecting motorist that steps on them would have his tyres deflated. As the driver attempts to fix the tyres, the gang would emerge from their hideout usually in the bush and attack the victims. They often robbed and raped their victims. The state’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Baba Tijjani, said the command had received several complaints from vigilance groups in Osu, some kilometers to Ilesha that it was as a result of the gang’s seeming “invincibility” that the local securitymen sought for police reinforcement.
Airlines to raise fares again, by 30%
by Oyetunji Abioye
Domestic airlines are planning to raise airfares against the backdrop of the recent increase in aircraft leasing cost, Oyetunji Abioye reports
Indications emerged on Sunday that domestic airlines were planning to raise airfares following a recent increase in aircraft leasing cost and insurance premiums by foreign-based operators.
International aircraft lessors recently classified Nigeria among "high-risk nations" in terms of doing business.
The total cost of leasing an aircraft, like the popular Boeing 737 Classis series used by domestic airlines in Nigeria, has increased by over 60 per cent, rising from the monthly lease rental of $120,000 to $200,000.
Airlines sources, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the only option left for the operators was to "adjust their airfares to the prevailing costs of operation" caused by the upward review of the cost of leasing an aircraft by leasing and insurance companies abroad.
Although domestic airlines have yet to conclude by how much they are likely to raise their fares, sources close to the airline chiefs said the planned increase might be about 30 per cent.
The development, it was gathered, would raise economy fares for a one-hour flight to between N37,000 and N42,000, from the current average of N28,000 and N33,000 depending on the airline.
The proposed increase, which is still being examined critically by airline operators in view of the recent adverse effect of the Dana Air crash of June 3 on the

SEXUAL HEALTH LIFE
Sexual Health
When you're in the mood, it's a sure bet that the last thing on your mind is boosting your immune system or maintaining a healthy weight. Yet good sex offers those health benefits and more. That's a surprise to many people, says Joy Davidson, PhD, a New York psychologist and sex therapist. "Of course, sex is everywhere in the media," she says. "But the idea that we are vital, sexual creatures is still looked at in some cases with disgust or in other cases a bit of embarrassment. So to really take a look at how our sexuality adds to our life and enhances our life and our health, both physical and psychological, is eye-opening for many people."Sex does a body good in a number of ways, according to Davidson and other experts. The benefits aren't just anecdotal or hearsay -- each of these health benefits of sex is backed by scientific scrutiny.
USING A LAPTOP DURING PREGNANCY....
Question. Is it safe for a pregnant woman to
use a laptop directly on her lap? I'm worried that there may be a danger
to my baby from the heat and/or radiation from the computer being so
close.
Answer. Laptops have become such a fixture in our work
and personal lives, the thought of not being able to use it safely ...
well, it might be like telling a mom-to-be that she can't drive a car!Luckily, a laptop is safe to use in pregnancy. Some laptops can get warmer than others, but the heat should not cause a problem for your baby, nor should any fear of radiation. Place the laptop on your thighs or laptop desk for maximum comfort. The screen of the computer, also known as a VDU (visual display unit) was once thought to emit radiation that might lead to problems with pregnancy including miscarriage. This idea has been disproved in recent studies.
If you are a heavy laptop user, or even spend a lot of time seated, it is a good idea to make sure you:
- Have a chair and desk that provide good support for your back
- Get up frequently to move around to promote good circulation
- Take breaks to prevent eyestrain
"I recently read that laptop use may hurt a man's fertility. Now I'm wondering if using a laptop might hurt my baby."
Balancing
a laptop when your lap has lapsed isn't easy — but it isn't dangerous,
either. Though one study did show a link between the heat emitted from a
laptop and a decrease in a man's fertility, most experts agree that
such low levels of heat don't pose any risk to a developing fetus.
Neither is there a radiation risk to your baby from using a computer or a
laptop. But, to play it safe, keep the laptop on top of your lap
(closer to your knees) and not on your belly (which would be a tough
balancing act anyway). After all, it's not called a bellytop. Even
better, keep the laptop on a desk or table during your pregnancy —
you'll end up with less back strain and fewer typos too.USING A LAPTOP DURING PREGNANCY....

Imo: Okorocha Approves N320m For Schools Repairs
GOVERNOR Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has approved the release of an
intervention fund of N320m to all public primary and secondary schools
in all the 27 local councils of the state.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajimogu has denied any plot by the 26-member Assembly to impeach him or any principal officer of the House.
He also denied allegation in some quarters that the Assembly deliberately refused to swear in the newly elected member for Oguta constituency in the last Saturday election, Eugene Dibiagwu.
Addressing some journalists at the weekend in Owerri, he said contrary to allegations from some persons, the Assembly is intact, adding that Dibiagwu would be sworn in on August 22.
Okorocha made the disclosure at the weekend in Owerri while declaring open a workshop for teachers in public schools in the state.
The governor said the fund is for maintenance of the schools, adding that each principal and primary school head will receive N200m. He directed them to set up teams on how to manage the funds and ensure judicious utilisation.
He said the state government has started taking delivery of school lockers/desks, uniforms, bags and writing materials for distribution in line with the free education policy of the state.
The governor also used the opportunity to announce approval of N10,000 wardrobe allowance for each public primary and secondary school teacher in the state.

PHCN staff disagrees over FG planned 7.5 per cent pension deductions
The National Union of Electricity Employees on Friday introduced a new twist to its face-off with the Federal Government.
It asked the Presidency to direct the Minister of
Power, Barth Nnaji, to withdraw a circular sent to the Power Holding
Company of Nigeria to commence 7.5 per cent pension deductions.
In a statement obtained by one of our correspondents
in Abuja, NUEE counsel, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, called on the government to
intervene in the matter in the interest of peace.
Aturu said it had become necessary to “clarify
certain misconceptions and misleading positions by those who clearly
have selfish motives to advance in respect of the so-called power sector
reform.”
He said, “One grey issue which has bogged down
negotiations between management and the unions is the unilateral
directive issued to the PHCN and by implication to the distribution
companies by the Minister of Power, to commence the 7.5 per cent pension
deductions the employer and the salaries of employees of PHCN in July
2012 in spite of or outside the existing Contributory Pension Scheme
contained in the Conditions of Service of the workers and in the
Superannuation Fund.

FG, Boko Haram Hold Talks Outside Nigeria
There are indications that the spate of bombings in parts of the country may soon come to an end if ongoing talks between a Federal Government team led by the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and leaders of the islamist sect, Boko Haram, do not hit the rock.
A deputy leader of the sect, Habu Mohammed had on Monday in far away Mecca, Saudi Arabia announced that the group is engaged in direct talks with the Federal Government on ending violence in the country’s north. Mohammed, who claims to be a deputy to the sect leader, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau, said the militant group decided to initiate the peace moves in response to numerous public appeals for peace in the country.
Pressed for details about the peace talks, a top contact in Boko Haram told Saturday Sun that the NSA has been holding discussions with some appointed representatives of the sect at designated venues in the North in recent weeks. The source added that an appreciable progress was, however, made last week when the sect signified its intention to send some of its leaders to an Arab country where a government team was asked to hold direct talks with the Boko Haram leaders.

Oyerinde Assassination: Oshiomhole slams police over poor handling of murder case !
Edo
State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has called on President
Goodluck Jonathan to set up a high-power panel of inquiry into the
killing of his principal private secretary, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde.
Oshiomhole’s call is coming on the heels of the controversy generated by the conflicting reports of the Nigeria Police and the State Security Service (SSS).
While the SSS had earlier paraded some robbery suspects who were alleged to have killed Oyerinde, the police also paraded another set of suspects, who alleged that they were hired by a Benin-based human rights activist to kill him.

She told the court that the pastor, who is their neighbour, had sent the victim on an errand on that fateful day, adding that when she did not come back on time, she went to look for the victim, only to see the victim being sexually abused in the pastor’s bedroom.
In his submission, counsel to the defendant, Osa Uwagie, appealed to court to grant his client bail on the account that he was frail and needed medical attention.
