    Aerial View Images Of Flooding Around River Niger In Lokoja


    The images were released by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and shows the extent of the flooding in the city caused by the overflowing River Niger, which is virtually cutting off the Northern part of the country from the South.

    A lot of small villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if nothing is done soon. The flooding has left many dead, thousands homeless, and movement from one place to the other impossible.

    African culture took centre stage at an ‘Evening with Coca-Cola’, a grand event that reawakened the consciousness of hundreds of Nigerian youths and rocked their world in a sensational way. The event was the official launch of ‘A Billion Reasons to Believe in Africa’ Coca-Cola’s latest continental campaign, which took place on Thursday evening, September 6 at Habour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Thrilling the crowd was the amazing trio of Iyanya, MI and Omawunmi, who were at their best as they dished out hit after hit to the joy of the teenagers, young adults, celebrities in the arts, comedy, fashion and music scene.

    The event was anchored by witty comedienne, Helen Paul and ‘Goge Africa’ host, Isaac Moses who projected a regal pose through the evening. The DJ provided a foretaste of the evening, which was followed with performances by young poets SageBlack, Elizabeth Ole and Nonnie. The crowd was thrilled to a frenzy when a dance drama depicted the evolution of Nigerian music from the seventies till date. 
     
    Kukere Master, Iyanya, was the first to perform and he got the crowd on its feet with his hot single, ‘Kukere,’ before doing the very popular ‘Your Waist.’ Iyanya said, “I believe in the originality of Africans. God loves us so much as can be seen from our fantastic climate, free from natural disasters. Though we have our own shortcomings, we are blessed. Our hospitality is second to none.     45m Nigerians Illiterate – UNESCO

    tions Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has stated that there are an estimated 40 to 45million illiterate persons in Nigeria.

    UNESCO Country Representative Dr Joseph Ngu made this revelation at the Roundtable on “Cultivating Peace” in Celebration of 2012 International Literacy Day in Abuja yesterday, said Nigeria is one of the countries among the E9 countries where education is a problem and the only one in sub-Sahara Africa, because it has above a 100 million people.
     He said that “the UN office in Nigeria had a three-year project “Revitalizing Adult and Youth literacy” which they hope will make a dent in the number of illiterate people in Nigeria, even if it is only 4 to 6 million people.”

    Student Murdered In Apartment


    photoPolice are investigating the murder of a 19-year-old University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill student, the second murder at the university in four years.

    Undergraduate Faith Hedgepeth, a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe of Hollister, N.C., was found dead in her off-campus apartment on Friday. Police said they are treating the case as a homicide but do not think it was a random killing, according to ABC News affiliate WTVD.

    Police said that Hedgepeth's body was discovered by friends, though they have not identified the individuals, according to the report.

    Wunmi Adebayo Another Student Shot Dead

    A female student of Tai Solarin University of Education. According to classmates and friends of the slain student , Wunmi Adebayo was shot dead last night at a male friend's house at Golden Estate in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

    The 200level student was visiting the friend when they were attacked by armed robbers who robbed them and shot her in the face because she fought them off when they tried to rape her.

    Her corpse has been deposited at the mortuary. Wunmi was the first child of her parents and friends say she was very jovial, friendly and kind hearted. Her candlelight procession will hold tomorrow at skyfield in Lagos.
