Some Fashion Mistakes Most Women Make

    1.     Bad Fit

What makes good style? Some people definitely think that's up for interpretation (yes, you, the woman in the velour track suit). But I'm adamant that if you can make a commitment to avoiding these egregious fashion, you're on the way to dressing with good taste.
If you don’t have fit, you don’t have style—end of story. Don't get hung up on sizes. An ill fitting trouser can be too big or too small but either way it's highly unflattering.
Always take two sizes into the dressing room and relax. Clothes aren’t meant to fit perfectly off the rack.Simple
solution: Buy pieces that fit the largest part of your body and have them customized. That means get yourself a great tailor (the best way to find one is usually through word of mouth). And don't balk at price. By paying a little extra to have your clothes actually fit your body means you'll wear them more often because you end up feeling better about how you look in them.

    2.    All Solids All The Time

There’s nothing wrong with solids, but a wardrobe full of them is a total snooze. Patterns and print make your outfits—and therefore you—more interesting. Forget what "matches" or "goes" with each other and start at the top. Pick a patterned blouse and pair with crisp jeans (they "go" with anything and everything) and top with a tailored blazer also in a more subdued solid color. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much more vibrant you look overall.

    3.    White Cross Trainers

An athletic shoe is meant to aid you during athletic activities, and running to the supermarket in your car doesn’t count (even if you buy some Gatorade there). As if gym gear away from a treadmill isn't offensive enough, it's even worse when your feet are bright white. Try more stylish non-athletic or lifestyle sneakers in colors, sandals, flats or boots instead. If you're clinging to your sneakers for comfort, I assure you it's possible for your feet to feel good in shoes other than cross trainers.

    4.    Mom Jeans

The whole concept is kind of insulting to moms. Just because you take the kids to school, wipe runny noses and wash magic marker out of the carpet all day does not mean you have to look terrible while doing it. Stand up for yourselves ladies! There is no excuse for wearing a light-wash, high-rise tapered jean. It's scary to think stores are still selling these denim relics. Know this: A dark-wash, mid-rise, straight-leg jean works on everyone. I mean everyone. You might need to try on 10 pairs to find your best fit (and even have them hemmed) but you can have a nice rear in jeans and be a mom at the same time.

    5.    Sweatshirts

If you're out raking leaves on a fall day, if you're at home sick in bed, or if you plan to paint the living room and don't want paint to splatter on your good clothes. These are all possible reasons for wearing a sweatshirt. Other than that, you will always look lumpy, bumpy, shapeless and overly casual. I suspect that's not the look you're going for.  If you’re cold, try a cute sweater, cardigan or wrap.

    6.    One-Size-Fits-All T-Shirts

One-size fits no one even if the T-shirt was free, which probably means it's incredibly ill fitting. Women need blouses (just  a fancy word for women’s shirts) not boxy, cotton giveaways. Show off your curves America! Or create them if you need to. Look for blouses with seams and darts to accentuate your shape, not obliterate it.

    7.     Denim on Denim

Some people call this the Texas Tuxedo, except in the Pacific Northwest, where I’ve heard it called the Canadian Tuxedo. Either way it's far from being formalwear or any kind of wear at all. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you forgot you put on jeans in the morning and absentmindedly grabbed your jean top on the way out the door. Now don’t wear a denim shirt with denim jeans ever again! Please just choose one or the other. As team, the pieces look silly and unflattering. As separates they can shine.

    8.     Tiny Logoed Bags

Just because your little bag sports a big designer logo, doesn’t mean it looks expensive. It looks like you could only afford the smallest bag in the store. Since that's not the image you want to put forth and you can't carry anything more than a lipstick in it, get away from the designer mentality. You don't need to show off a label to feel good about yourself. Invest in a bag that's tasteful and a little bigger - logo or not.
