Recently, in Kano State about 12 guys were arrested due to the act of
homosexuals including a 20-year-old boy who was on the verge of tying the knot
with his partner, they were arrested by men of the Kano Hisbah.
According to the Shiekh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander General of the Board, the arrests were made on Monday, January 26 after the security outfit raided a gay wedding between a certain Faruq Maiduguri and Abba Mohammed.
25-year-old Abba Mohammed who is said to be the groom and other members managed to escaped during the raid.
Shiekh Aminu Daurawa told press men that the same-sex wedding held at the popular Dawakin-Kudu Hills and Valley, a recreation centre, about 20 kilometres away from Kano city.
The Commander of the Kano State Hisbah Board revealed that Faruq Maiduguri had invited his friends from various states through social media for a birthday ceremony in disguise for the foiled wedding ceremony.
Shiekh Aminu Daurawa revealed that they got information from the family of Faruq about the planned wedding and stormed the venue to botch it.
“As you can see from their appearance and the way they looked, there is every element of homosexuality in them. We have arrested 12 of them, but Abba Mubammed escaped arrest and maybe we would have arrested more,” Shiekh Aminu Daurawa told newsmen during a press briefing at his office.
Faruq Maiduguri however told pressmen that he was only celebrating his birthday, denying the allegations that he was wedding his gay partner.
“I don’t know what they are talking about. I was celebrating my birthday before the Hisbah people came to the venue and arrested all of us. They accused me of planning a gay marriage but I told them I didn't know what they were talking about,” Faruq said.
The Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act forbids same-sex wedding, homosexual clubs, associations and organizations, with penalties of up to 14 years in jail; the Commander General of Hisbah has assured that a full scale investigation would be conducted on the case.
